Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura

"I te tirohanga Māori, ko te tamaiti te waka māna e kawe ngā hiahia me ngā wawata, mai i ngā tūpuna, ki ngā uri. "Kua whakapuakina te ngako o aua whakaaro i 'Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura'" (kua tautohua kei roto i a Ministry of Education, 2020, wh.23).

“From a Māori perspective, the child is the carrier of hopes and aspirations between past and future generations. The expression, ‘Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura’ captures the essence of this notion” (cited in Ministry of Education, 2020, pg.23).

I te tau 2017, i tuku a Te Tāhuhu i te Mātauranga i te tono kia tuhia tētahi tuhinga huatau; Defining a 21st Century Curriculum for Māori-Medium Schooling: Some Big Ideas and Thoughts nā Murphy, Gray me Toia i tito (Ministry of Education, 2017c). I aro atu te rōpū kaituhi ki ngā uara, ngā hiahia me ngā wawata o tātou te porihanga Māori mō ā tātou rangatahi, ngā hiahia o ngā whānau mō ā rātou tamariki, ā, me pēhea tātou e whakarite ai i ā tātou tamariki mō te ao kei te heke mai, te ao kāore anō kia mōhiotia i tēnei wā, ngā tūranga mahi kāore anō pea kia waihangatia, ngā āhua noho tauhou o nāianei, me ngā tikanga ahurea o te wā heke tē taea pea te matapae. I marohitia Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura i te tau 2020, ā, i whakahoungia, kia puta ai te puna whakaaro Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura.

In 2017, the Ministry of Education commissioned the writing of a think piece; Defining a 21st Century Curriculum for Māori-Medium Schooling: Some Big Ideas and Thoughts written by Murphy, Gray & Toia (Ministry of Education, 2017c). The writers of the think piece were concerned with what we as a Māori society value and want for our rangatahi, what whānau want for their tamariki, and how we prepare our tamariki for a world that is unknown, jobs that may not yet exist, lifestyles that are unfamiliar to us at present, and future cultural norms that may be unimaginable.Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura was proposed and then revisited in 2020, resulting in the Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura  paper.

Kua ahu mai Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura i te tirohanga Māori, ā, ka whakaata i ngā uara o te ao Māori, me ngā hiahia o ngā whānau mō ā rātou tamariki, hei Māori, hei kirirarau o te ao hoki. Ka whai i te tikanga torowhānui, kia noho ai te ākonga hei pokapū o te whakaako me te ako.

Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura stems from a Māori world view and reflects the values of Māori society and what whānau want for their children as Māori, and as global citizens. It takes a holistic approach that places the ākonga at the centre of teaching and learning.

Kei tēnei puna whakaaro, arotake mātākōrero hoki: Te Tamaiti Hei Raukura, he anga mō te whakahounga o te puka marautanga o te motu Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, ā, ka tautoko hoki i te whakawhanake i ngā marau ā-kura.
