Haumie

symbolic of uncultivated foods and fern root (Aruhe)

Haumia

Haumie along with Rongo hid within the bosom of Papatūānuku from the angry  Tāwhirimātea who continues to cause havoc and chaos towards his brothers. Tū however found him by pulling out the bracken fronds sticking out of the ground.

His korowai shows the roots and plants that grow. His realm is in the ground. Brown is his main colour, down to earth which depicts the soil and also represents warmth, stability, simplicity, well-being, foundation, structure and support which are his strengths.
