Ko Māui Hangarau summit ready to kick off in Tauranga this month!

Wed 22 July 20

A high-powered summit featuring some of the best Māori tech innovators and entrepreneurs from around the country, is set to kick off in Tauranga at the end of the month.

Ko Māui Hangarau aims to awaken, inspire and ignite rangatahi Māori into pathways in tech, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The summit is designed to capture the hearts and minds of rangatahi who have an interest in digital innovation, technology and business. Inviting Māori leaders from a number of relevant fields to share their unique insights, experiences and challenges with students first-hand.

Ko Māui Hangarau was initially a part of the Tauranga Groundswell Festival of Innovation in 2018. Launched as a platform to help rangatahi Māori accelerate their pathways into the technology and innovation space.

Following the success of that first event, Ko Māui Hangarau will now host separate summits this year and next, in Tauranga Moana, Ōtautahi and Ōtaki.

The Tauranga Moana summit opens on Thursday, July 30th featuring a range of key note speakers and experts from across the digital innovation and technology landscape.

Director & Founder of NNMD and Young Animators, Nikora Ngaropo, will take a session in the morning sharing his 18 years of experience in art direction, animation and design.

Datacom’s Teresa Pollard will give an insight into her role as Head of the Northern region for New Zealand’s largest IT company with over 3000 staff in NZ alone and another 4000 globally.

Microsoft New Zealand’s Dan Walker is looking forward to highlighting his passion to indigenise the corporate sector both here and abroad.

Arataua Media’s Kahurangi and Chey Milne are creative entrepreneurs that will share their commitment to delivering high quality Māori language content in media, communications and marketing.

This stellar line-up will be joined by award winning broadcaster Mātai Smith who will take on the role of MC for the Tauranga event.
