Background

The Ministry of Education invites kura throughout New Zealand to apply for funding to deliver a creative project in partnership with a professional artist or creative practitioner.

Creatives can be artists and/or highly skilled and knowledgeable people such as kaiwhakairo, kaiwhatu, kairaranga, kaitito waiata / rotarota, or a kaihanga taonga whakarākei.

Kura and creative(s) will apply for funding based on a project that has been planned together. If your proposal is successful, kura will work with the creative to deliver the creative experience for students and ākonga, lasting from 8 to 20 weeks.

The creative learning experience will enhance the well-being of ākonga and develop their knowledge and skills in communication, collaboration, and creative thinking and practice. It will also raise their awareness of careers in the arts and creative sectors and prepare them for the future and work.

This programme will be inclusive of Toi Māori, Pacific arts, and creative practices from all cultural traditions within the curriculum and disciplines of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Kura can either work with creatives from their community or select one or more creatives on the Available creatives page.

We encourage all creatives interested in participating in Creatives in Schools to complete an Expression of Interest with the Ministry, so that interested kura can find them on the Available creatives page.
