Te Waka o Rangi is a star cluster. Beginning with Matariki at the prow of the waka, to Puanga who is at the stern. Taramainuku is the captain of this canoe. Gathering those who have passed and taking them beyond the veil.

 

Did you know?

  • Puhi-kai-ariki is the name for the bird feather threads adorned to the sternpost of a canoe
  • There are two renown waka in ancient narratives, the aforementioned Te Waka o Rangi and Te Waka o Tamarereti
  • Within these handed down narratives, Tāne boards TeWaka o Tamarereti to carry the many stars in which to adorn the cloak of Ranginui
